A Speech to UN officials Leads to New Global Team: Join the Movement!

Osaka, Japan - October 8, 2023 —

Following his speech to United Nations officials on September 12, 2023, Kunio Hara, President of the Ho-Me-I-Ku Foundation, calls on international leaders to take action. He is forming a new international team under the guiding principle, "People exist to praise each other," and invites passionate activists to join. The foundation eagerly awaits contact from those who resonate with the idea expressed in his speech, detailed below.

“People are born to be praised” by Kunio Hara

The purpose of this speech is to ask you to include "We exist to praise each other" in our planet earth's guidelines for action.

I’m KUNIO Hara. Please call me KUNI.

“People are born to be praised, and we exist to praise each other”. I spend my life pursuing this truth. I am working to contribute to the education of children around the world. I am a human resources consultant who raises the "productivity" of a company.

“People are born to be praised, and we exist to praise each other”

What do you think about this idea? Praise is not just for kids or workers. Everyone, even big leaders, needs praise. When one leader says good things to another leader about their hard work, they understand each other better. Praise about the process, not just the end result. I envision a future where world leaders openly praise each other.

I made this kimono for this event. Look at this on my back.

I’m going to ask you a question. Would you be happy if you are praised? Or be happy if you are scolded? It’s obvious, to be praised right? I want to light up the life of people all over the world by praising.

In Japanese, to praise is called “Ho-me-ru” This word means “wishing prosperity and happiness for others”. Isn’t that wonderful? How do you say “Ho-me-ru” in your country? I created the education method to convey praise to people. I call it “Ho-Me-I-Ku”. This is about educating people to praise and raise.

You know how companies have their own mission statement, right? So what about a mission statement for our Earth?

I have a dream. One day we will have a unified Earth mission statement.

Already this “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method has spread to 20 counties, to 500 companies, and to 1 million people. “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method has been brought in companies and it shows amazing results. Sales and business performance have greatly increased. In fact, we don’t just praise everything. “Being praised by the customers” that’s the true goal for all staff members. Within 90 days, almost all companies can make the difference with “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method. “Ho-Me-I-Ku” is also used in university entrance tests.

I write a series of articles twice a week for Forbes.com. I have been a TEDx TALK speaker three times and my YouTube videos have been viewed over 10 million times. I was interviewed twice by the Japan Times, an affiliate of the New York Times. “Ho-Me-I-Ku” was featured twice on NHK, Japan's largest broadcaster. “Ho-Me-I-Ku” has been taught as a subject at a technical college. I also receive requests for lecture from the boards of public educational institutions in Japan.

I am happy to see that educational method “Ho-Me-I-Ku” with Japanese spirit, is spreading all over the world.

I created “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method, not only to introduce praising habit into education, but also to deliver another important message. Ho-Me-I-Ku can be separated into Ho-Me and I-Ku.

“Ho-Me” is also read as “home “ in English. As you know, “home” is the house itself and family.

“I-Ku” means “to go” in Japanese. When these two come together, it means “to go home”. So, this message means to take good care of your families and people close to you.

I was born 49years ago. I grew up strong and healthy, raised with so much praise by my wonderful parents, like no one else has. Thanks to them, I have amazing confidence and was gifted the word “Ho-Me-I-Ku”. On top of that, I have come to the place where I can give a speech to people all over the world about “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method.

Why do I want to spread “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method to the world? Let me tell you about this driving force of mine. When I went to Cambodia, I have heard that there were children who had gone their whole lives without being praised even once. I was raised by parents who praised me all the time, so I was shocked by the reality. Then I started to move much faster after the day because everyone should be praised in their lives.

Now, due to various world situations, depression has been increasing around the world. You can’t see the people you want to see and you’ll never know when the anxiety ends. The economy has taken a big blow. It is like the sun is taken from us and we’re facing this situation.

I believe that Ho-Me-I-Ku would brighten the world and we all became the sun ourselves to praise ourselves and others. Surprisingly, it costs nothing to achieve that. Anyone can do this anywhere.

On one day every year, let's call it “Ho-Me-I-Ku” Day, you will be able to see people praising each other online or on TV. That’s my idea.

I joined here in the hope that you all would know the value of “Ho-Me-I-Ku” method. Would you like to join our movement?

 Finally, I have a dream.

I want to make this one of the guidelines for our Earth:

We are born and exist to praise each other.

 Thank you.

Smarter Bathroom: Meet Moderno Home Depot’s MHD-4500 AI Smart Toilet

The modern bathroom is evolving beyond functionality, with smart technology bringing greater convenience, personalized comfort, and new possibilities for everyday living.  Joining this shift is Moderno Home Depot’s MHD-4500 AI Smart Toilet. Introduced as the Philippines’ first app-controlled smart toilet, the unit combines smartphone connectivity, hygiene-focused functions, and wellness-inspired features in a contemporary design.  At the heart of the MHD-4500 is its smartphone connectivity. Through the Moderno Smart Home app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, users can connect to the unit via Bluetooth and access its smart features directly from their phones. Voice control and a remote control system offer additional ways to operate the toilet, providing greater convenience and flexibility for everyday use.  “As the Philippines’ fastest-growing smart toilet brand, Moderno Home Depot believes that innovation should make everyday living more convenient and comfortable. The MHD-4500 reflects our commitment to bringing smart technology into practical home solutions, giving Filipino homeowners more opportunities to experience the benefits of a connected home,” said Rovie Sanchez, co-owner of Moderno Home Depot.  Beyond connectivity, the MHD-4500 places personal hygiene and comfort at the center of the bathroom experience. It features a self-cleaning nozzle, front and rear wash functions, bidet and hip wash options, adjustable nozzle positioning, and UV sterilization. These functions offer users more options for a personalized cleansing routine while incorporating additional hygiene features into an everyday essential.  Comfort takes center stage through its heated seat, adjustable water temperature, and adjustable drying system. Multiple massage modes, including strong-soft and moving massage functions, provide further customization. Built-in aromatherapy, dynamic lighting, and a soft night light add a wellness-inspired dimension, while automatic lid opening and closing and a slow-closing seat ring bring added convenience to daily routines.  These features are housed in a modern, elongated design crafted from premium ceramic. An LED display and integrated controls complement its contemporary appearance, allowing the unit to combine smart functionality with a clean, modern aesthetic.  Practical considerations are also part of its design. The MHD-4500 uses a siphon-jet flushing system with automatic and manual flushing options, as well as a foot-sensor flush function. A built-in water tank and booster pump support its flushing system, while leakage protection and power-outage flushing provide additional functionality.  For Jean Sanchez, co-owner of Moderno Home Depot, thoughtful home upgrades are about creating spaces that respond to people's everyday needs.  “Creating a comfortable home goes beyond choosing beautiful fixtures. It is also about finding solutions that make everyday routines easier and more personal. With the MHD-4500, we want to encourage homeowners to look at the bathroom in a new way and discover how technology can bring added comfort and convenience to their daily lives,” she said.  The product launch coincided with the opening of Moderno Home Depot’s newest showroom in Biñan City, Laguna, on Oct. 8, expanding the brand’s presence in South Luzon. The showroom offers homeowners, architects, and construction professionals another destination to explore modern bathroom fixtures and home solutions.  With the MHD-4500, Moderno Home Depot brings connected technology into a space where comfort, hygiene, and functionality intersect every day. It offers homeowners a new way to think about bathroom upgrades — not simply as a matter of aesthetics, but as an opportunity to make everyday living more convenient and personalized.

Bringing money lessons to young learners in Visayas, Mindanao

Bringing money lessons to young learners in Visayas, Mindanao

Young learners in schools across Visayas and Mindanao are getting additional resources for classroom learning and financial education through a partnership between Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) and BPI Foundation (BPIF). Under BPIF’s FinEd Unboxed program, the foundations distributed educational materials and multimedia learning packages to recipient schools in Isabela City, Basilan; Zamboanga City; Guimaras; and Iloilo City throughout September. The school visits also featured the premiere of new episodes of “Estudyantipid,” an original educational series that introduces financial literacy to children through relatable situations and practical guidance. “At BPI, we believe that financial education is a powerful tool for empowerment. By helping young Filipinos develop practical money skills early, we can help build a generation that is more responsible, resilient, and prepared for the future,” said BPIF trustee Mary Catherine Elizabeth Santamaria. Each recipient school received a 55-inch smart TV equipped with a Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library containing more than 1,500 curriculum-aligned video lessons. The resources are designed to support daily classroom activities across grade levels through multimedia learning. KCFI vice president Edric Calma thanked BPIF for its continued support in bringing these resources to more Filipino learners. Calma described the turnover as an investment in learners’ futures, with curriculum-aligned video lessons developed to make learning more engaging, interactive, effective and relevant.

Dennis Trillo steps up as hubby, dad and peacemaker

Dennis Trillo steps up as hubby, dad and peacemaker

It was GMA Drama King Dennis Trillo himself who put an end to the drama sparked by Ogie Diaz’s vlog interview with Patrick Garcia, which stirred the proverbial hornet’s nest. Dennis was even the one who offered Patrick an olive branch. Let there be peace for the sake of everyone involved, most especially the kids. Dennis made the point that Patrick could have handled a long-forgotten issue privately instead of going public, even if he felt compelled to speak to protect his daughter from being pilloried on social media. Comedienne Candy Pangilinan echoed that sentiment, indirectly coming to the defense of her close friend Gelli de Belen. Gelli was being drawn into an issue she had nothing to do with. With the controversy dragging more people into the fray, it fell to Dennis to sweep up the mess, haul it into the bin and, hopefully, shut the lid for good. No more scattering the contents, please. His wife, Jennylyn Mercado, also deserves credit for her firm resolve to say no more. Let the men take center stage in this emotionally charged, true-to-life showdown as spectators wait with bated breath to see where it leads. The same goes for Jennylyn’s management company, Aguila Entertainment, which has chosen to keep its eagle-like talons in check. Jen’s manager Becky had already said plenty in her statement, delivering criticism sharp enough to leave Patrick reeling. For now, it’s “peace on earth” in this corner of showbiz — an early Christmas treat. What, then, might showbiz followers wish for next? Since Christmas is traditionally a season for children, we can only hope Patrick reaches out to his son Alex Jazz, spends time sharing stories with him and begins making up for lost time. In keeping with the season, Patrick could even play Santa Claus. No need for the full costume or the trademark beard, just a huge sack of goodies — although making up for years of absence will take more than whatever he puts inside it.

Tabernas turn family values into growing business

Tabernas turn family values into growing business

For Anthony “Ka Tunying” Taberna and his wife, Rossel “Mrs. T” Taberna, building a business empire has been a shared journey of faith, sacrifice and learning. More than a decade after venturing into entrepreneurship, the couple is taking another step forward with the Taberna Group of Companies' first open house. While Anthony continues his career in broadcast journalism and commentary, Rossel has taken a leading role in managing their businesses, allowing the couple to build a livelihood while raising their family and staying grounded in their Christian faith.  Their journey reached another milestone on Oct. 13 with TGC For Business 2026, the group's first open house for partners and clients, held at The Metro Tent in Pasig City. With the theme “One Step,” the event brought together entrepreneurs, industry leaders, government representatives and prospective business partners to explore the group's four brands and the opportunities they offer.  “When we first envisioned bringing all our brands together under one roof for our very first expo, we had so many quiet late-night worries. Mounting an event like this for the first time is a massive leap of faith,” Rossel said during an interview.  A partnership built on trust  The couple's business journey began with a goal to establish a source of income beyond Anthony's work in media.  “At the beginning, the plan was just to have a fallback. I always told Mrs. T that I wouldn't always have work in media,” he said in Filipino.   That initial plan eventually grew into the Taberna Group of Companies, a Filipino-owned enterprise comprising Ka Tunying's, Kumbachero Food Corp., Taste of the Town Catering and Outbox Media Powerhouse Corp. Today, the group has approximately 250 employees across its food, manufacturing, catering and events operations.  But while their businesses have grown, Anthony and Rossel have also had to learn how to support each other through the pressures of running a company and raising a family.   He acknowledged that they made mistakes along the way, but said those experiences helped them improve their operations. He credited her leadership with helping put the businesses in better order when she took charge.  For him, supporting his wife means recognizing her abilities and allowing her to make her own decisions.  “I think husbands shouldn't limit their wives' talents and abilities. We should let them fly,” he said.  “If she's happy, I'm happy, too,” he continued.  Rossel said her husband's support has helped her deal with the demands of managing their businesses, particularly when things do not go as planned.  “That's the secret. I handle the business well, and he handles me well. He's very supportive. When I'm down, he's the best at pep talk. We pray together, and he's very supportive,” she said.   Making time for each other  Anthony and Rossel have been together since Nov. 11, 2005. Despite their demanding schedules, they continue to make time for each other and their children.  Anthony credited his wife's time-management skills with helping the family maintain a routine. Rossel plans the coming week on Sunday, allowing them to coordinate their commitments.  “It's all detailed, even the hours and days. Sometimes I have my own schedule, but I adjust mine to hers so that we have time for our children and each other,” he said.   The couple have a nightly routine: they watch an episode of a Korean drama together.  Their children have also become involved in the family enterprise. During the open house, their daughter Zoey led the prayer.  Anthony said Zoey contributes to Outbox, while other family members also help with the businesses.  For the Tabernas, faith remains part of their family life and business decisions, guiding how they treat their employees and approach their responsibilities.   “We are standing here as partners who are deeply grateful for how far grace and hard work have brought us,” Anthony said.
